The Miami Herald has posted George LeMieux’s Senate application form, and it answers a number of questions. First off, the Republican Party of Florida has in fact paid LeMieux $150,000 as a consultant for the past 13 months. The money has been paid to LeMieux’s consulting firm, MTC Strategies.

When I asked RPOF press secretary Katie Gordon last week if RPOF has been employing LeMieux, since the State Party did not appear to have disclosed any payments to him, she said, “we do not discuss Party finances beyond what we are required to report in our state and federal campaign finance reports, which are available online.”

Thus, my statement yesterday that RPOF has not disclosed payments to LeMieux was not technically true and I stand corrected.

Second, the Miami Herald reports that LeMieux is currently representing the Department of Transportation in its the negotiations with the Florida East Coast Railway to purchase the rails. Since Gunster Yoakley, the law firm LeMieux chairs, still lists Florida East Coast Industries as a client, there continues to be a big fat conflict here.

While he’s been taking in money from both sides involved in these discussions, LeMieux has publicly touted the benefits that a new commuter along the East Coast would offer. Imagine that.
