All rumors that General David Petraeus will run for President in 2012 have seem to come to a halt.
According to US Central Command via The Hill:
In response to questions about presidential aspirations, General Petraeus has often asked questioners to recall General Sherman’s response to similar queries in the late 1800s. Sherman said, “If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.” That remains General Petraeus’ response as well.

It is an interesting idea, Petraeus running for President. I wonder if the days of generals being public figures are over and following that, if the days of generals being active in politics are over.
