A while ago some photos of Pres. Elect Barack Obama’s “whip” surfaced showing what some suspected to be a half-truck, half-sedan armored tank.
According to Detroit News, “The new limousine has larger windows and better visibility for the president, Caldwell said. But it is roughly the same size and “footprint” of the previous model, he said.”
Apparently, this is the first presidential limo to not carry a specific model name, instead being referred to as ” the 2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine.”
Further details about the weight and engine size remain under lock and key, however this is what we do know, via Detroit News:
Another company provides heavy armor that is reportedly at least 5 inches thick for the vehicle. The limousine also has run-flat tires, bulletproof glass and a completely sealed interior to ward off a chemical attack, among many other high-tech security features. It also has electronic communications equipment.
Being used now to train Secret Service agents, this newly outfitted ride will replace the tired wheels of President Bush - a 2006 model - and will make its debut on Inauguration Day.
